What you type into a calculator
All the math happens on your device. The numbers you enter are not sent to our servers. They are written into the page address (the part after the "?") so that the share and print buttons work and so the page remembers your inputs when you reload it. Anyone you send that link to will see the same numbers.
Your choice of inches or millimetres is saved in your browser's local storage so the next page opens in the same units. You can clear it any time by clearing site data in your browser.
Analytics
We use three tools to see which pages get used and where people run into trouble.
- Google Analytics 4 counts visits and records a few events: when a calculator is used, when a result is shared, printed or embedded, and when an affiliate link is clicked. Google sets cookies to tell repeat visits apart. We take calculator numbers out of the page address before it goes to Google.
- Microsoft Clarity shows how people use a page through behavior metrics, heatmaps and session replays, which capture things like clicks, scrolling and what's on the screen. It uses first-party and third-party cookies and similar technology. The Microsoft Privacy Statement explains how Microsoft collects and uses this data.
- Ahrefs Web Analytics counts page views and where visits come from. It doesn't use cookies.
Clarity and Ahrefs can see the page address, and on a calculator that can include your numbers, since that's where the page keeps them. A Clarity replay can also show the numbers on screen. You can block all three with your browser's tracking protection, and Google offers an opt-out add-on for Analytics.
Affiliate links
Some pages link to products on Amazon. If you click one, Amazon may set its own cookies to credit the referral. What you buy there is between you and Amazon; we only see aggregated commission reports, never your name or order.
Advertising
The site doesn't show ads today. If that changes, this page will be updated first, and ad partners will be listed here with links to their own policies and opt-out tools.
Embeds
When a calculator is embedded on another website, it loads from WoodworkCalculator.com and follows this policy. The other site's own policy covers everything else on their page.
If you email us, we keep the message so we can answer it and fix whatever you reported. We don't add you to a mailing list.
